Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry is a Historical fiction book written by Mildred D. Taylor in1997.  It is about 9 year old Cassi Logan and her family. The story takes place in the year 1933 and back then most white people disliked black people very strongly. It tells us of the struggles the Logan’s went through and how they prevailed through them. How she must give courtesy to those not deserving of it, watch one of her brothers closest friends get beaten.

I personally hate books that aren’t futuristic and dreaded that  we had to read this one for Language Arts. But after I got into the book I started to like it. It really showed what people back then had to do to get respect if they were colored. I think that all 7th graders should be assigned this book and they should read it so they know how hard it was back in the 1900′s.  I recommend this book to people who enjoy history and a good book.

The days of staying up till 10 o’clock reading your favorite book and splashing your friends in pool, are over. School’s back in session and this is the last week of summer. This year I’ll be in 7th grade and after the first week of school I knew that I had a fun year ahead of me. All of my teachers are super fun and really outgoing (My math teacher especially.) I am also playing soccer this year and on top of that, homework, and school it’s been a little crazy. Today I had my first soccer game and I scored the first goal of the game/season! My team is really awesome and I owe it all to them.

My summer was amazing this year. I got to go to Colorado and climb mountains, camp, swim, play soccer, go to the zoo, I did everything summer had to offer. I’m pumped and ready for the school year and I hope everyone else is to.

In July I went to Colorado and it was amazing. I camped in the mountains for a week with my sisters, cousins, uncle and Dad. It was so beautiful anywhere you went. I got to climb 2 different 13,000ft mountains and hike all around them. When we were exploring around the Mountains I climbed we found old mines and explosion shacks. A clear stream flowed out of one of the caves we were in and it was freezing cold I put my hand in it for a minute and it went numb.  Because of the wildfires we weren’t allowed to have a fire so we had glow stick fires where we hung them from our tent. We camped just above the tree line so the air was thin and difficult to breathe but once we got used to it it was fairly easy. Colorado is a gorges place for a vacation and I recommend it to people who enjoy mountain air and beautiful views.

This is the view from parts of the Mountain we climbed.

Rainbow dinners are a great way to eat healthy and have fun. All a rainbow dinner is is where you have foods of all colors all over the table. You can have the deepest red cherries to the brightest lime. When ever we have rainbow dinner I love to help prepare the food and set the table. Two days ago I made it and I had watermelon, strawberries, kiwi, carrots, ham, pepperoni, a huge salad, cucumbers, cheese, orange juice. I could go on forever. It’s really fun making these cause you can make smiley faces out of fruit or put the food out in color order or you can make it a big heap of color, it’s all up to you. I find this a fun way to stay healthy and have a fun time learning about food. Whenever we make rainbow dinner we have a big bowl of scraps like the fruit peelings and stuff to throw into our compost so we r also helping the earth. This is my favorite dinner meal and I hope you enjoy it as well.

The princess diaries is a hilarious book about a 15 year old girl who learns that she is the princess of Genovia. Amelia (also known as Mia) as well as other people don’t believe she can run a country by herself so she has to take Princess lessons from her grandmother. Her grandmother, known as grandmere, is a very strict Queen with lots of ideas. By Christmas Eve she expects Mia to stand in front of Genovia and give a speech. But Mia has other things to worry about such as here dream crush and her mother and her mothers boyfriend. Mia’s algebra teacher!!! Mia has a lot to learn about this princess business and you can read all about it in the Princess Diaries.

The Princess Diaries is also a movie but the book in my opinion is a lot funnier than the movie so you might want to try reading it as well as watching the movie. In the book she is in New York but in the movie she lives in San Francisco. Also in the movie her grandmother appears friendly and kind but in the book she is a cold hearted witch (In Mia’s opinion.) The Princess Diaries is also a series of multiple books. Meg Cabot has written another series for younger girls since this book series is more for teens. As I said earlier I preferred the book over the movie so you might want to try reading it as well as watching the movie.

I personally don’t watch a lot of T.V but some shows I’m absolutely in love with like:  The Firm, The Ellen Show, Survivor, American Idol, Terra Nova, Switched At Birth and Jane by Design

The Firm is  an action packed show with lawyers and men with guns.  It is very entertaining and a good time waster.

Terra Nova, is not on right now, but should return in September.  It is a sci-fi T.V. show with dinosaurs and new technology in an old world. Planet Earth gets so polluted they have to go back in time just to stay alive.

Switched at Birth and Jane by Design are both on abc family and  the main characters are teenagers. Switched at Birth has a lot of sign language in it because a few of the main characters are deaf. Jane by Design is all about fashion and Jane’s life.

Survivor and American Idol are both reality T.V. shows and are very competitive in singing and relay races. American Idol is almost over so vote for your favorite mine is Jessica. Survivor is almost over as well and I am rooting for Kim to win.

The Ellen Show is what I always watch when I’m at my grandma’s house with my sisters and it is the funniest T.V show I know. I love the way Ellen dances it is hilarious.

This is what I’m watching, what are your favorite shows?

Dad's Ride

I’m 12 years old so I can’t drive.   The only motorized vehicles I can drive are a four-wheeler and a go-cart. But I still love driving it feels like I can fly on the ground if that makes any sense. Ever since I was little I’ve wanted to fly, that’s one reason I love traveling because I get to fly in a plane most likely.

Sometimes my dad lets me start the car in the morning before I go to school. I love starting the car because it feels as if I’m the one about to drive it. I grab the keys off the hook, walk down the hallway, slip my shoes on and open the door to the frigid morning air. I hear the sound of the gravel under my feet and the click of the car door unlocking. I slide into the seat and put the key in the ignition and in one flowing movement I turn the key and I hear a muffled roar. I crank the heat up to high and turn the radio to my favorite station. Then I have to go back in the house and the fun is over. But in 3 and 1/2 years time I’ll be able to put my foot to the pedal and drive free as a bird. I love starting the car because it gets my imagination running.

I made several Hunger Games ATCs!

I went to a Girl Scout workshop the other day to help younger kids make ATCs or Artist Trading Cards. ATCs are the size of a baseball card (2.5 x3.5 inches) and you design them yourself.

I was helping at the stain-glass window station and they actually looked like stained-glass windows, I was very surprised. All you have to do is cut tissue paper out into little shapes and glue them to the card then outline your shape with a black marker.

There was also other stations including:

  • Tessellation where you make lines with a black marker then fill in the empty spaces with designs, there was stamping where you used stamps to decorate the cards.
  • Free draw which you could draw any thing you wanted.
  • Finger painting, all you had to do was stamp your thumb and change the thumb print into an animal or whatever else you wanted.
  • Crayon Resisting was my favorite and it was the easiest. You would draw what ever you wanted to draw with a white crayon and then you would use water paint on the card and the paint wouldn’t paint on top of the crayon markings so you would have a colorful masterpiece.
  • Collage where you would cut out pieces of paper from a magazine and glue it on your card.

Finally you would get together with other trading card artists and trade your cards. Don’t forget to put your name and the date on the back of your card, so other people could trade for your card and know it was made by you.

There are a few websites were you can learn about and trade ATC cards online:  atcsforall.com and swap-bot.com.

This is a fun activity for all ages and skill levels, you don’t have to be a super talented person!

In about 1,000 years homework will be the end of humans. (All of my class mates are hoping that it will be this year but we all know it’s a small chance.) In 1,000 years we might all die of homework because of the homework paper used from trees.  The trees create oxygen for us. Most people will say that trees are a renewable resource and they are but if we don’t stop cutting them down for new buildings, roads, and parks and don’t plant new trees then homework will be the end of mankind. New iPads, iPods, and iPhones might be used for assignments but you still have to power the electronics with electricity. But the coal supply is already running low soon people will have to start using solar energy to power things, but then solar panels are so expensive and it will be a huge mess so they will probably go back to paper. Then paper will be the end of us. So I and all of my other class mates believe that no homework will save human kind in the long run.
